Wheeler Presents Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire
BUY TICKETSJuly 30 @ 7:30 pm

An airplane hanger, a church, a bar, a warehouse, a dining hall, a movie theater, a home, a library, a boutique, a barn…for the past two years The Streetcar Project has toured Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire, to unconventional spaces around the country — and it comes, for the first time, to Aspen.
There is a vital need right now to create new economically viable forms of theater. Working class artists must reclaim a central role in the creation and presentation of their own work. In that spirit, director Nick Westrate and Lucy Owen have created a version of A Streetcar Named Desire like none other. Presenting Tennessee Williams’s complete, unabridged text with no props, or set this production is designed to be performed everywhere. It’s hyper intimate, completely unique, and incredibly revealing. This production strips bare to the bones the greatest piece of American drama.
For four nights, the ghosts of Blanche, Stella, Mitch and Stanley will haunt the Wheeler Opera House’s historic Vault Lobby. Come see the landmark site-specific production reimagine how this beautiful space can hold a play. You’ve never seen A Streetcar Named Desire like this before, and you never will again.
“A Streetcar Named Desire” contains mature themes, strong language, and depictions of violence against women. Viewer discretion is advised. This performance is recommended for mature audiences.
