The Musical! is even more fun than staying up late and having a hot dog party! It’s not easy being the Pigeon-you never get to do ANYTHING! But when the Bus Driver has a crisis that threatens to make her passengers (gasp!) late\, maybe that wily bird CAN do something. Featuring an innovative mix of songs\, and feathers\, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical! is sure to get everyone’s wings flapping. The production runs for approximately 60 minutes and is recommended for ages 3-8. Based on the book Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems\, published by Hyperion Books for Children\, the show features a script by Mo Willems and Mr. Warburton\, lyrics by Mo Willems\, music by Deborah Wicks La Puma\, and dramaturgy by Megan Alrutz. This play was commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and was first produced at the Kennedy Center during the 2019-2020 season. Additional credits include set design by Timothy R. Mackabee\, costume design by Heidi Leigh Hanson\, props design by Lake Simons\, and direction and choreography by Jen Wineman.

DESCRIPTION:Sam Grisman is a bass player\, music appreciator\, and bandleader who grew up in Mill Valley\, California in a home where some of the great acoustic music of our time was being recorded on a regular basis. His father\, legendary mandolinist\, composer\, and producer\, David Grisman\, was constantly having friends come over to his home studio for recording sessions and rehearsals. These friends\, such as Doc Watson\, Jerry Garcia\, John Hartford\, Mike Seeger\, and Tony Rice all left an impression on the younger Grisman and inspired him to pursue a life making music with his many talented friends. Sam Grisman Project was created to shed light on the music that Sam grew up around\, and highlight that music’s influence on the members of the collective and in the greater music community. The band’s shows create a safe space where the band and audience can bask in the shared love and reverence for the great music and musicians who continue to inspire us all. The friends who make up Sam Grisman Project are a rotating cadre of acousticians who are some of the brightest individual voices on their respective instruments. Members of this rotating cast of instrumental wizards include guitarists Max Flansburg\, Logan Ledger\, Sam Leslie\, Henry Moser\, Jesse Harper\, and Jefferson Hamer\, mandolinists Dominick Leslie\, Joe K. Walsh\, Matt Flinner\, and Jesse Appelman\, clawhammer banjo maestro Victor Furtado\, fiddlers John Mailander\, Alex Hargreaves\, Nate Leath\, Shad Cobb\, and Phoebe Hunt\, cellist Nat Smith\, and Todd Livingston on the Dobro. The band also frequently collaborates with legendary singer\, songwriter\, and bluegrass pioneer Peter Rowan\, a deeply meaningful connection for Sam and the band tying directly back to his father David Grisman and the Old and In the Way legacy. We build relationships\, communicate\, reproduce\, establish territories\, and adapt to shrinking resources. In these ways\, we’re no different from other social mammals. Chimpanzees\, wolves\, and gorillas are among the most charismatic mammals we know. We identify with them as species\, groups\, and even as named individuals. All social mammals live in groups to achieve together what they cannot do alone. Join biologist-turned-photographer Ronan Donovan as he shares what he’s learned documenting these animals\, and the insights he believes we—as fellow social mammals—can learn from our wild kin. National Geographic Explorer Ronan Donovan is a wildlife biologist turned conservation photographer. He uses visual storytelling to illuminate stories related to our fellow social mammals to remind us that we are all connected and to promote the preservation of our shared habitat. Ronan has embedded for months at a time\, year after year\, with wild families of wolves\, chimpanzees\, and mountain gorillas to capture imagery that highlights their challenges\, behaviors\, and family bonds. Hosted by Beth Brandon and featuring Dan “Gonzo” Machanik (Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club)\, Greg Studley (Woke Up Late with Stormy Daniels)\, and Mike Hammock (Winner of Denver’s Comedy Works New Faces Contest)\, this special lineup celebrates performers who helped shape Aspen’s vibrant comedy scene. Join us at the Wheeler Opera House for a night of laughter\, nostalgia\, and hometown humor.Mike Hammock is a headliner based out of Denver\, Colorado.  You might know him from Kill Tony\, performing on the road with Adam Carolla\, or featuring for comics like Chris Destefano\, Taylor Tomlinson\, TJ Miller and others at the world famous Comedy Works. Winner of the Colorado Springs Comedy Festival Best of Fest and Comedy Works New Face Contest\, his debut album “Charm Offensive” is available on streaming platforms.In 1987\, living in Aspen\, totally broke and in desperate need of funds\, Dan “Gonzo” Machanik (20) got into the fabled Tippler Nightclub with a fake ID and won their Comedy Contest and the $200 prize… For the next 14 weeks Dan beat out dozens of professional comedians and won the prize every week — a local legend was born. The next year Dan completed his Degree at CU Boulder and in Dec. 1989 was immediately hired by KSPN Radio and moved back to Aspen. During the next 5 Years Dan dominated the local Comedy scene as part of ART-C (The Aspen Ridiculous Theater Company) and as a solo performer\, culminating in a feature Slot at the Aspen Comedy Festival opening for Garry Shandling where he was introduced by Hunter Thompson and an eight show run several months later opening for Tommy Chong at Ebbe’s nightclub. After leaving Aspen Dan went on to perform comedy on University Tours\, on Boats and in New York/ LA and even parts of Asia where he is credited as a pioneer of English language comedy in Taiwan. Fast forward and Dan moved to the Bay Area where he once again became a local Legend working Clubs like the Famous Purple Onion as well as well-known Nightclubs\, Wineries\, Theaters and Yacht Clubs throughout Nor Cal.… In 2023 Las Vegas ‘discovered Dan’ and 2024 found him doing ten shows at Jimmy Kimmel’s Nightclub on the Las Vegas Strip\, including six co-headlining with Adam Carolla and four as Sole headliner as well as being featured on FOX5 TV. SUMMARY:Wheeler Presents: Andy Thorn & Erik Deutsch - Banjo and Piano Explorations
DESCRIPTION:In Colorado in 2016\, pianist Erik Deutsch (Black Crowes) and banjoist Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon) met for the first time\, when Erik showed up for his first Leftover Salmon gig at the Stanley Hotel. It didn’t take long for the like-minded musicians to click. Over the next four years\, Leftover Salmon’s stage-left lit up as the two developed an undeniable musical chemistry. In their original collaborations\, they blend piano and banjo to create lush acoustic landscapes and classical-inflected forays. Their original songs dance between bluegrass\, jazz\, and folk\, while showcasing the musical connection and language that these two accomplished players have honed on stage over the years.
