DESCRIPTION:Ronan Donovan: Exploring our Wild Nature: Wolves\, Chimps & Gorillas.What does it mean to be human? We are\, at our core\, social mammals. We build relationships\, communicate\, reproduce\, establish territories\, and adapt to shrinking resources. In these ways\, we’re no different from other social mammals. Chimpanzees\, wolves\, and gorillas are among the most charismatic mammals we know. We identify with them as species\, groups\, and even as named individuals. All social mammals live in groups to achieve together what they cannot do alone. Join biologist-turned-photographer Ronan Donovan as he shares what he’s learned documenting these animals\, and the insights he believes we—as fellow social mammals—can learn from our wild kin. National Geographic Explorer Ronan Donovan is a wildlife biologist turned conservation photographer. He uses visual storytelling to illuminate stories related to our fellow social mammals to remind us that we are all connected and to promote the preservation of our shared habitat. Ronan has embedded for months at a time\, year after year\, with wild families of wolves\, chimpanzees\, and mountain gorillas to capture imagery that highlights their challenges\, behaviors\, and family bonds. His time in the field has resulted in five National Geographic magazine feature stories on the conservation status of these species. You can watch Ronan in action in Kingdom of the White Wolf (Disney+) and in Planet Earth 3 (Amazon Prime). His first photo exhibition\, titled Wolves\, will be traveling for the next 3 years. Hosted by Beth Brandon and featuring Dan “Gonzo” Machanik (Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club)\, Greg Studley (Woke Up Late with Stormy Daniels)\, and Mike Hammock (Winner of Denver’s Comedy Works New Faces Contest)\, this special lineup celebrates performers who helped shape Aspen’s vibrant comedy scene. Join us at the Wheeler Opera House for a night of laughter\, nostalgia\, and hometown humor.Mike Hammock is a headliner based out of Denver\, Colorado.  You might know him from Kill Tony\, performing on the road with Adam Carolla\, or featuring for comics like Chris Destefano\, Taylor Tomlinson\, TJ Miller and others at the world famous Comedy Works. Winner of the Colorado Springs Comedy Festival Best of Fest and Comedy Works New Face Contest\, his debut album “Charm Offensive” is available on streaming platforms.In 1987\, living in Aspen\, totally broke and in desperate need of funds\, Dan “Gonzo” Machanik (20) got into the fabled Tippler Nightclub with a fake ID and won their Comedy Contest and the $200 prize… For the next 14 weeks Dan beat out dozens of professional comedians and won the prize every week — a local legend was born. The next year Dan completed his Degree at CU Boulder and in Dec. 1989 was immediately hired by KSPN Radio and moved back to Aspen. During the next 5 Years Dan dominated the local Comedy scene as part of ART-C (The Aspen Ridiculous Theater Company) and as a solo performer\, culminating in a feature Slot at the Aspen Comedy Festival opening for Garry Shandling where he was introduced by Hunter Thompson and an eight show run several months later opening for Tommy Chong at Ebbe’s nightclub. After leaving Aspen Dan went on to perform comedy on University Tours\, on Boats and in New York/ LA and even parts of Asia where he is credited as a pioneer of English language comedy in Taiwan. Fast forward and Dan moved to the Bay Area where he once again became a local Legend working Clubs like the Famous Purple Onion as well as well-known Nightclubs\, Wineries\, Theaters and Yacht Clubs throughout Nor Cal.… In 2023 Las Vegas ‘discovered Dan’ and 2024 found him doing ten shows at Jimmy Kimmel’s Nightclub on the Las Vegas Strip\, including six co-headlining with Adam Carolla and four as Sole headliner as well as being featured on FOX5 TV. DESCRIPTION:In Colorado in 2016\, pianist Erik Deutsch (Black Crowes) and banjoist Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon) met for the first time\, when Erik showed up for his first Leftover Salmon gig at the Stanley Hotel. It didn’t take long for the like-minded musicians to click. Over the next four years\, Leftover Salmon’s stage-left lit up as the two developed an undeniable musical chemistry. In their original collaborations\, they blend piano and banjo to create lush acoustic landscapes and classical-inflected forays. Their original songs dance between bluegrass\, jazz\, and folk\, while showcasing the musical connection and language that these two accomplished players have honed on stage over the years.

SUMMARY:Wheeler Presents: The Jacob Jolliff Band
DESCRIPTION:Jacob Jolliff is one of the world’s premier contemporary mandolinists. In 2011\,he graduated from Berklee College of Music\, having studied there on a fullscholarship. The following year\, in 2012\, he won the USA’s National MandolinChampionship in Winfield\, KS. A fixture of the bluegrass scene\, he hasperformed and collaborated with Béla Fleck\, Tony Trischka\, Michael Daves\,Grant Gordy\, Wes Corbett\, and Alex Hargreaves\, to name a few. Additionally\,throughout his 20s\, he toured as a member of the groups Joy Kills Sorrow andYonder Mountain String Band. Currently\, his focus is on his own ensemble\, TheJacob Jolliff Band—one of the most cutting-edge progressive bluegrass groupson the scene today. They’ve released three albums\, the most recent of which\,“Instrumentals\, Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries\,” dropped in May 2024. The bandplays a combination of complex original instrumental music and vocal repertoirethat spans from trad bluegrass to unlikely pop covers. Improvisation and theensemble interplay at the forefront.

DESCRIPTION:Iconic comedian Paula Poundstone is known for her smart\, observational humor and a spontaneous wit that has become the stuff of legend.  She regularly plays theaters across the country\, hosts a weekly comedy podcast\, Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone\, and is a regular panelist on NPR’s Wait\, Wait… Don’t Tell Me. She also voiced the character ‘Forgetter Paula’ in the feature films Inside Out and Inside Out 2.Paula has starred in several HBO specials\, including Cats\, Cops and Stuff\, which nabbed a cable ACE award for Best Comedy Special. She was the first female comic to host the White House Correspondents Dinner. She filed live coverage of the 1992 Democratic and Republican National Conventions and the Presidential Inaugural for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and at the 93rd Emmy Awards. Paula has starred in two television series\, both entitled The Paula Poundstone Show. Paula’s second book\, The Totally Unscientific Study of the Search for Human Happiness\, was one of eight semi-finalists for the Thurber Prize For American Humor; the audiobook was one of five finalists for the AUDIE award for Audiobook of the Year. Paula has released five albums and is featured in several documentaries and compendiums noting influential comedians of our time.
